MOBILE PHONES

From the Rambles Secretary.

I well remember a meeting of Walk Leaders at which the usage of mobile phones was discussed, and whether the group could afford to provide same. While it was generally agreed that they could be an asset, the biggest problem apart from cost was the logistics of transferring the phones from the last user to the next in line, in time for the next walk. The conclusion was that although desirable, the idea was not practical.

How times have changed!

It now seems that not to be carrying a “mobile” is to say the least unusual. Leaders have already been using them to great advantage, especially so when leading large groups where the back marker may be well out of sight. It follows that it would be even more convenient if the leader’s mobile number was made known to members, and these – if agreed by the leader concerned – will in future be included in the Walks Programme.

Please understand that this facility is to be used only for the duration of the walk, and should not be abused.

PS Walk Leaders: Publication of mobile numbers (of those leaders who have agreed) has been agreed by the Exec. Committee.  Please remember to switch on from when you leave home until the end of your walk.
