APPLICATION NO 07/00484/FUL
ADDRESS – LAND AT MONKS BROOK, STONEHAM WAY, SOUTHAMPTON
PROPOSAL – DEVELOPMENT OF TRANSIT SITE FOR GYPSIES AND TRAVELLERS WITH ASSOCIATED ACCESS FOR VEHICLES AND PEDESTRIANS
The Eastleigh Group of the Ramblers’ Association on 7 May 2007 objected to the above application submitted to Southampton City Council because there would appear from the plans to be no provision for fencing along the northern boundary adjacent to Footpath No 28 Eastleigh. Indeed there would appear to be a gap in the bunds designed to permit pedestrian access in that direction. The consequence of this for the public using the footpath is that there will be no protection from the aggressive dogs that the travellers have for protection. The public using this path have already suffered from a number of occupations of this land and the land on the west side of Stoneham Way the consequences of which have been on each occasion to render the path unusable because of the threats these animals have posed. The Eastleigh Ramblers requested that unless there are effective fencing measures to protect the public this application should be refused but it is understood that Southampton City Council have granted itself planning consent.
This path runs from Monks Way on the south side of Eastleigh down to Doncaster Drove via land that this to be redeveloped for housing and Lakeside. It is proposed to divert the path to fit into the proposed redevelopment and the Eastleigh Ramblers have been consulted by Eastleigh Borough Council and have suggested amendments which have been accepted by the developers Bovis Homes. The proposal is shown on the plan below. An Order was made on 16 January 2008 and objections to the Order have to be submitted to Eastleigh Borough Council not later than 13th February 2008. The Eastleigh Group has received a copy of the Order and does not intend to object.
