THE EASTLEIGH RAMBLER WALKS PROGRAMME Last updated 16 June 2008 Back to Eastleigh Rambler Home Page to see the current walks programme and the Group contacts WALKS BEING ORGANISED BY THE EASTLEIGH GROUP OF THE RAMBLERS' ASSOCIATION When you join the Rambler's Association you are allocated to the Group nearest to you by the use of your postcode. You can when joining specify a preference to be a member of another Group instead. The Eastleigh Group covers the same area as that of Eastleigh Borough Council. In this area there are also Groups in Southampton, Romsey, Winchester and Bishops Waltham. Members of the Eastleigh Group receive in the post quarterly in January, April, July and October in each year a newsletter and a rambles programme. There are around 150 walks a year ranging from 4-20 miles, normally Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday in each week. You can receive a paper copy of the current quarters programme as a free trial by writing to the Membership Secretary (see Group Contacts). Most of what you get in the post also appears on this web site, including the web version of the rambles programme which will be accessible from the home page from some point in July 2008. We are quite happy for you to come along on the published rambles but once you see what our Group is like we do expect you to join the Ramblers' Association (see the link on the home page where you can access the National Web Site and join on-line). If you prefer to have a printed application form write to the Membership Secretary and send an SAE. One of our charitable objectives is to encourage access to the countryside so we do give you plenty of chance to see if rambling is for you. There is no charge to come on the ordinary day walks, all we ask is that you become a member if you are going to walk with us on a regular basis, but if you want to come on the coach rambles then there is a charge referred to in the programme. Weekends away and holidays organised for the Group through travel operators are restricted at present to members of the Ramblers' Association only. You will hear the term "Affiliates" these are members of the Ramblers' Association who belong to other Groups who pay to receive the Eastleigh Group information in paper format through the post (you can only be a member of one Group). Write to the Membership Secretary if you wish to become an affiliate See Group Contacts. Walk Leaders publish the walks they are organising in the Rambles Programme, they can also use this web site to give additional publicity or late information. The rambles programme that will be accessible from the home page will be more up to date that the paper versions so check there before setting out. You do not have to notify the walks leader before you go on a ramble. Just turn up at the starting point, if you are coming for the first time introduce yourself to the leader who will be able to assist with any further queries you may have. We normally walk in all weathers, sometimes however road conditions or adverse weather can produce life threatening situations and the leader may chose to cancel so check with the leader on the phone numbers provided if there is any doubt about whether the walk is going to be on or not. ADD YOUR WALK TO THE NEXT PROGRAMME! If you want to submit a ramble for inclusion in a forthcoming programme then you can do it on line using the form below. The form should then be sent to the Rambles Secretary - see Group Contacts on the home page. Right click on the link and select "Save target as" to save it to your hard disk. Amend it to add your information in the usual format and then send it back to the Rambles Secretary preferably as an email attachment so that by copying and pasting the information can be transcribed without further typing.
